Instrumentation & Controls Engineering Co-op or Intern

ACS is looking for an Instrumentation & Controls Engineering Co-op or Intern to join our team. This position is based out of our Troy, MI office but will spend majority of their time on-site at our customer facilities.

The Instrumentation & Controls Engineering co-op or intern will work with teams of engineers of varied disciplines to provide excellent client service, from the design concept stage through commissioning and job closeout. 

 

Essential job responsibilities include, but are not limited to the following: 

  • Obtain, review, and report on equipment quotations, contractor bids, proposals, and technical submissions
  • Solicit bids, review bids, specify, and purchase electrical and controls equipment for projects
  • Generate or review panel layout shop drawings for control and power panels
  • Program and integrate HMIs and PLCs (Allen Bradley, Siemens, GE, Wago, etc.)
  • Create P&IDs, control sequences, design specifications, panel layouts, and wiring diagrams
  • Design, set up, and perform system functionality tests on equipment in our fabrication facility and at customer sites
  • Periodic visits to the jobsite to oversee field contractor activities
  • Maintain quality subcontractor and vendor relationships
  • Schedule and manage vendors and sub-contractors during installation and construction phases of test facility projects
  • Work with contractors to assist in the installation of equipment at customer’s site
  • Perform onsite startup and validation of equipment
  • I/O checkout and troubleshooting
  • Calibrate instrumentation
  • Validate programming
  • Tune PID loops
  • Work to meet client deadlines including balancing multiple priorities and responding to changes in deadline, scope, and design as they occur
  • Ability to diagnose and perform hands on repair of all types of equipment and instrumentation (mechanical and electrical test equipment, measurement devices, actuators, control systems, motor drives, pumps, valves, regulators, etc.)
  • Repair/troubleshooting of equipment, measurement devices, controls, motor drives and electric controls related to engine testing facilities and equipment

 

Basic requirements include:

  • Students in Electrical Engineering
  • PLC or Instrumentation class experience would be a plus but not required
  • Ability to prioritize multiple tasks
  • Highly effective interpersonal skills
  • Ability to travel to customer facilities for design meetings, equipment installation supervision, and commissioning
  • Expected to meet client deadlines, including balancing multiple tasks and responding to changes in deadline, scope, and design as they occur.
  • Ability to work well in project team environment, including team player, takes initiative to improve personal and interpersonal skills, ability to work effectively with all internal and external levels and groups.
